In response to recent questions:  Yes, there will be a NHL/NHLPA/Washington Capitals Free Hockey Gear program this season.  Entitled "Learn to Play", the program this season will be for new hockey players ages 5-9.  Enrollees must have a basic ability to skate on ice but may not have had previous organized ice hockey participation.  The Haymarket Iceplex and the Piedmont Hockey Club have committed to host four "Learn to Play" sessions at the Iceplex between September 2017 and March 2018.  Each session will be six weeks in duration with two ice times each week:  Tuesday and Thursday 5:00-5:50pm.  Session dates are:

Sep 5 - Oct 12   This session is full

      Oct 17 - Nov 30 (no skate 11/21 and 11/23)

      Dec 5 - Jan 25 (no skate 12/21 - 1/2)

      Jan 30 - Mar 8

The "Learn to Play" program is included within the Iceplex' "Learn to Play Hockey" program.  A single learning plan, a single instructor.  With the "Learn to Play" program registrants receive free hockey gear to keep; with the Iceplex' "Learn to Play Hockey" program registrants, ages 4-10, do not receive free gear; however, the Iceplex will provide loaner gear, if requested, at no charge for the duration of the session.

"Learn to Play" participants MUST register and pay through an online portal set up by the NHL.  This portal is:

      www.learntoplay.nhl.com/capitals

Registrants on this portal are paying their fees directly to the NHL, not to the Haymarket Iceplex or to the Piedmont Hockey Club.  This portal is open now, but is not yet open for registration for the October 17 session.  Program fee is $175.

Following registration on the portal, Iceplex participants will be contacted by Iceplex staff with specific information on the free gear and how to size it to your skater.

Free gear includes skates, socks, shin pads, hockey pants (breezers), elbow pads, gloves, shoulder/chest pads, helmet, stick and a bag to hold it all.  Our first-session registrants are fitted out and ready to go; we will hold "fitting out"  in October to get our participants in the second session fully geared up.

      Welcome

The Piedmont Hockey Club is committed to providing our members the best hockey experience possible.  On a daily level, we focus on hockey skill development and an enjoyment and appreciation of the game.  This provides the mode by which we strive to teach the skills and techniques necessary to succeed not only in ice hockey, but also in life.  All of our home ice is at the Haymarket Iceplex in Haymarket, VA.

      Fall House Age Division Realignment

To improve competitive balance and provide increased opportunity for player skill development the Piedmont Hockey Club is realigning age assignments for Birth Years 2005-2008.   The complete list of revised house hockey divisions follows:

      6U (BYs 2011-2013)

      8U (BYs 2009-2010)

      **11U (BYs 2006-2008)

      **UH  (BYs 2000-2005)

Registration procedures for the final week before start of house play reflect the pre-revised age divisions.

Currently registered BY 2005 players have been administratively assigned into UH.  New BY 2005 players will  register in the 12U division and be reassigned administratively to 11U.  There is no increase in fees.

BY 1999 player registration applications will not be processed.

Practice/game ice times are unchanged from those currently scheduled.  12U ice times are reassigned to 11U.
