The Piedmont Hockey Club was formed Spring 2011 from a very interesting series of events.
On February 6, 2010, a very heavy snowfall caused the Prince William Ice Center, home to the Prince William Hockey Club, to collapse. Faced with no home for the 2010-2011 hockey season, PWHC accomplished a remarkable feat. With no more funds than regular members dues and volunteer labor provided by members, Prince William Hockey Club installed an ice rink inside of an old 84 Lumber warehouse building in Haymarket, VA over a span of 10 weeks, affectionately known as the “Lumberyard.” Prince William Ice Center’s new building is expected to be completed in mid September, 2011. Prince William Hockey Club will be returning there for the 2011-2012 season.
The Piedmont Hockey Club will play out of the former “Lumberyard,” now know as the Haymarket Iceplex (www.haymarketiceplex.com). The Piedmont Hockey Club is a member of USA Hockey and the PVAHA and will field Travel and House teams starting the 2011-2012 season.
