The Piedmont Predators 8U Sky team played in the Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University March 24th and 25th.  The team was undefeated in the first three games and went on to play 3 single elimination games Sunday morning.  The first game they beat the Wilmington Ice Hawks 5-3 and moved onto the semi-finals as the third seed where they took on the Raleigh Surge.  The format of the tournament awarded penalty shots that would be held until the end of regulation time. The Raleigh Surge and Predators had a hard fought game that ended with a 3-3 tie after regulation time.  Raleigh had four penalty shots to the Predators one as Jake Fisher stood tall stopping all four shots, but the Predators were unable to take advantage of their single penalty shot.  Since ice time was available, it was agreed by coaches to play a sudden death period, allowing the game to end with a winner.  A few minutes into the overtime period Austin Burke buried a rebound in front of the net to give the Predators the win in overtime 4-3. The championship game was against the home town team, Hill City Coyotes (Lynchburg).  Hill City came out hard and got the first goal, but the Predators were undeterred and went onto score the next 6 unanswered goals with Alex Jang leading the way to a 7-2 win tallying 4 goals.  The boys played their hearts out with 6 games in two days; this was a great finish to the Predator’s Mite Sky season.

Congratulation to the teams:  William Armstrong, Austin Burke, Jake Fisher, Logan Harvey, Alex Jang, Luke Johnson, Will Kelly, Briston Lewis, Jude Lindsey, the coaches Doug Johnson, John Lewis, Bill Fisher, Abby Lewis.
