Thanksgiving weekend the Piedmont Predator’s Squirt Sky team participated in the local 2015 United States Eastern Regional Silver Sticks Tournament in Columbia, MD.  Finishing second in a 12 team bracket qualified the team to advance to the Silver Sticks Finals in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, January 22-23 where the team played three very competitive games.

That set the stage for a very unique set of circumstances, by creating a conflict with a previously scheduled CBHL league game with the Potomac Patriots.  To resolve the conflict, the Potomac Patriots Scheduler and the Potomac Patriots Squirt Upper A team was graciously willing to reschedule the game to avoid the conflict.  Unfortunately, there were no weekend dates that both teams were available to play.  The only option was to schedule an extremely rare weeknight game on Wednesday, January 27 at 7pm at the Haymarket Iceplex.  The atmosphere was electric as players from Piedmont’s other three squirt travel teams were on hand to make sure the team had all the support they needed.

The game saw the Predators jump out to a 2 goal lead in the first period.  The first goal was scored by John Fisher, assisted by Nathan Clark.  The second goal was scored by Will Saunders, assisted by Paul Allison.  Potomac closed the gap in the second period with a power play goal scored by Aidan Murray, assisted by Gunnar Hart.  Piedmont countered with the next 3 goals by Jake Harrison from Allison and Colin Smith, Clark from Saunders and Fisher, and Lane Miller from Jacob Wolfrey.

The third period saw the Patriots mount a quick two goal come back with goals 14 seconds apart.  The first by Joey Renzi from Noah Bird, the second by Hart from Ronin Hofmaster.  But it was not enough as the Predators held on to win 5-3.
