Squirt Sky earned a trip to Canada this past weekend.  The team participated in the Silver Stick Columbia Regional Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Squirt Sky went 4-0 in the preliminary round.  They dispatched two teams from Montgomery to open and close the preliminary round.  Playing their second game of the day on Friday, Sky took on nearby rival Potomac, who was playing their first game. In a very intense hard fought battle Sky defeated Potomac 2-1.  Sky also knocked off a talented and well coached Frederick Freeze team 4-1.

The semi-final game was a rematch with the #4 seed Potomac.  From the puck drop both teams were flying up and down the ice.  Sky opened the scoring but penalties in the first period would end the Sky's momentum and put them down 4-1.  The team fought back in the second period to make it 4-2 and continued to build on its momentum and tied the game late in the third to send the game into overtime tied 4-4.  The OT format was 3 on 3.  OT was a fast paced back and forth clash with Sky prevailing.   The finals pitted Sky against #2 seed Caps Academy, a familiar opponent to Sky.   The Caps Academy started fast and was up 3-0 after the first.  Sky fought back to make it 3-3 after the second period.  The third period was an intense up and down battle.  Caps Academy would go up 4-3 midway in the third and hold on with a goal in the final seconds for insurance.

Thanks to a total team effort from all 12 players, Sky earned the opportunity to play in Forest, Ontario as the Columbia Regional representative.
