Piedmont Predators 14U White are the 2019 CBHL 14U Wales Conference playoff Champions. The Predators finished the CBHL regular season in 3rdplace out of 9 teams with a record of 13-5-2. Overall, the team played 44 exhibition, tournaments, and CBHL games compiling a record of 24-16-4—capping it off with a five-game winning streak where they outscored their opponents 35 to 5 with two shutouts.

On Saturday, March 2, the Predators faced the #2 seeded Harford North Stars in the semi-finals—a team with whom they had split the regular season series 1-1-1. The Predators dominated play from the drop of the puck with Jason Miller striking first 3 minutes into the game. Despite generating relentless pressure for the remainder of the period, the score remained 1-0 after the first. The Predators came out firing again in the second. Less than a minute in, Collin Kumpf who fought off a defender to tap in a nice backhand pass from Jameson Flint. Two minutes later, Jack Colman led a two on one—passing to Kyle Boedeker who finished with a nice wrist shot. With under 3 minutes to go, Flint tapped in a pass from captain Brenden Maszatics and Kumpf backhanded another off a pass from Ethan Brodman. In the third period, Colman flipped in an unassisted goal followed by Miller’s second goal off a steal by Flint. The Predators defense held tight the entire game with goalie Matthew Quarry coming up big—stopping a total of 22 shots for his 4thshutout of the season.

On Sunday, March 3, the Predators faced the #4 seeded and red hot Frederick Freeze, who went the distance defeating the #1 seeded Montgomery Blue Devils in a shootout. The Predators again came out strong in the 1st, outshooting the Freeze 12-1 and ending the period up 2-0 on goals from defensemen Camden Slater and Dylan Jagels. Play continued to tilt in the Predators favor in the 2ndwith an early Maszatics wrap-around. Solid defense by Alex Vaness, Mason Tomlinson, and Andrew Pestone chilled the Freeze as the Predators dominated play in the 2ndperiod, out-shooting Frederick 11-1. Like previous games our Northern rivals, the Freeze turned up the heat in the 3rd. Five minutes in, the Freeze capitalized on a power play and followed with another goal one minute later—despite some initial stellar saves by goalie Neel Chopra. However, solid forechecking from Griffin Barret, Dominic Kretzing, and Preston Murrell put the Freeze on ice—limited to a single shot over the final 9 minutes and unable to pull their goalie as the final seconds ticked off a 3-2 Predator win.

Hockey is truly a team game. All 17 Predator skaters and goalies contributed to a successful CBHL season, 4 fun tournaments, and, of course, our Championship Weekend in Hampton Roads:
