2023-2024 SEASON INFORMATION

FALL 2023-2024 GIRLS TRYOUTS START APRIL 24

GIRLS Travel tryouts will be held at the Haymarket Iceplex starting April 22.  The tryout fee is $100 (if registered by 11:59pm, 4/15; $150 thereafter) and includes a tryout jersey to keep.  Walk-ins will not be accepted.  Registration for tryouts will require the NEW 2023-2024 USA Hockey Registration.

 

There is a mandatory parent meeting that at least one parent of each player should attend.

 

Tryout Process

First Tryout Session for Each Age Level

  • The mandatory parent meeting and jersey pick up are scheduled for the same time and will be conducted upstairs at the rink.  First, players will check in and secure their tryout jersey.  The parent meeting will take place immediately following jersey pick up.
  • Parents may submit travel registration contracts.

Second/Last Tryout Session for Each Age Level

  • Parents must submit travel registration contracts in order for the player to be considered for placement on a team.  Players who have not submitted a season contract by the second/last tryout session will not be considered for placement on a team.  Within 48 hours of the last tryout session, teams will be posted to the website.  For players selected to a team, their travel registration contracts become binding and in full effect.

 

If you are not able to attend 1 or more tryout sessions email coachtiki@haymarketiceplex.com or revans@haymarketiceplex.com to arrange for alternate evaluation arrangements.

 

Season fees include practices, regular season and exhibition games, practice jersey, head coach stipend.

Uniforms, tournament fees, non-parent head coach travel expenses and hotel, off-ice training, and miscellaneous team expenses are not included.

Practice schedule, subject to change based primarily on number of teams fielded.

 

Starting the week of 5/1, teams will have 4 weekly practices with the option of attending one or more spring/summer tournaments.

Autumn Frear - Piedmont Predators 19U Girls 

Congratulations to Autumn Frear of Piedmont Predators 19U Girls team for being selected as MYHockey Rankings First Peak Performer of the 2023-24 season!

Through the first 13 games this year, Autumn had piled up 31 goals and 14 assists for an average of 3.46 ppg. 

Awesome job Autumn!  Let's Go Preds!  

 

Coppolino Selected to USA Hockey Player Development Camp

Bella Coppolino attended the USA Hockey Southeastern District Player Development Tryout held April 29-May 1 in Wesley Chapel Florida.  She was selected to attend the Multi-District Camp which will be held in Bowling Green OH July 31-August 5.   Bella, in her third year with the Predators, will play for the 14U AA Girls team for the 2022-2023 season.  The Predators family would like to congratulate Bella on her selection..

PREDATORS 19U GIRLS ADVANCE TO USA HOCKEY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Piedmont Predators 19U AA team captured a berth to the USA Hockey National Championships on Sunday March 6th at Ashburn Ice House. The Predators 19U AA finished 2nd in the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament, giving them the second spot to represent the Southeast District at USA Hockey National Championships. The team started the tournament strong with a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Eagles on Friday. Goals were scored by Autumn Frear, Polina Zubarev, Ella Phillips, Emily Permut and Emily Townsend. Goalie Liz Moller earned the win, saving 16 of 18 Tri-City shots.  On Saturday, the girls continued their strong showing, with a 5-2 win over the Florida Alliance, with goals from Ariana Evans, Polina Zubarev, Kara Wann, Faith Jordan, and Zaneta Kocourkova.  Goalie Maggie Cowden picked up the win, saving 12 of 14 Florida shots.  This win clinched the second place spot in the tournament. The team finished the weekend with two games against the Nashville Jr. Predators. In the championship game on Sunday, the Preds fell 9-3 to the strong Nashville team.  Piedmont goals were scored by Anika Degen, Emily Townsend, and Chloe Flye. The Preds will compete in the USA Hockey National Championships in West Chester, PA from March 31- April 4.

PREDATORS 14U GIRLS WIN PONYTAIL TOURNAMENT

The Piedmont 14U Girls won the Ponytail Tournament 14U B Division on Sunday in Laurel at the Gardens Ice House with a thrilling shootout victory over the Washington Pride.  The score was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and overtime.  The Predators were led by Jill Cody with goals in regular time and the shootout and Mallory Bymers with the clinching shootout goal.  Net-minder Bella Gorkowski turned away 7 of 8 shots during regulation and overtime and two of the three Pride shooters during the shootout for the victory.  In round robin play, the Predators beat Carolina 4-0, the New York Islanders 3-1 and tied the Pride 2-2.  The Predators defense had a very strong showing over the weekend only allowing 33 shots over the four games played.  Piedmont 14U will finish out the season at the Laurel Tournament in Pittsburgh next weekend.

PIEDMONT 19U AA GIRLS WIN CBHL PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIP

The Piedmont Predators 19U AA Girls team captured the CBHL Playoff Championship on Sunday in Frederick, MD.  Piedmont beat the Tri-City Eagles 3-1 in the Championship game.  Polina Zubarev, Zaneta Kocourkova and Kara Wann scored for the Predators.  Liz Moeller stopped 20 out of 21 shots.  Piedmont beat Montgomery 6-0 in the semifinal game.  Goals were scored by Kara Wann, Autumn Frear (2), Emily Permut, Polina Zubarev and Zaneta Kocourkova.  Maggie Cowden turned away all 9 shots. Piedmont will play in the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament held next weekend at Ashburn, Haymarket and Ion.

PIEDMONT 19U AA GIRLS WIN PVAHA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Piedmont Predators 19U AA Girls team won the PVAHA Championship this past weekend.  Piedmont bested the Tri-City Eagles 3-2 in the Championship game.  Samara Metz, Autumn Frear and Ella Phillips scored for the Predators.  Net minder Liz Moeller turned aside 31 of 33 shots.  In round robin play, Piedmont lost to Tri City 5-3, beat the Montgomery Blue Devils 7-1 and beat the Reston Raiders 5-2.  With the PVAHA Championship win, the Piedmont 19U girls advance to the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament which will be held at Ashburn, Haymarket and Ion March 4-6.  The winners at the Southeast District Tournament earn a berth in the USA Hockey National Tournament held in West Chester, PA March 31 - April 4.

PIEDMONT 14U GIRLS GO 4-0 AT SPRING FLING SHOWCASE

Piedmont 14U Girls finished out the season with a strong showing at the Spring Fling Showcase winning all 4 games.  Piedmont beat Potomac 5-3, Tri-City 7-1, Navy 2-1 and Carolina 4-3.  Carolina was 3-0 going into the final matchup with 28 goals for and only 2 against.  Carolina was up 3-2 late in the 3rd period but the Predators came up with two late goals to claim the victory and finish the showcase undefeated.  The performance at the showcase was a great finish to the season.  Piedmont Girls look forward to the Spring Development Program starting Wednesday March 24.

PIEDMONT 16U GIRLS WIN CBHL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Piedmont 16U AA Girls won the CBHL Playoff Championship on Sunday in Frederick with a 4-0 win over the Tri-City Eagles.   Piedmont goals were scored by Zaneta Kocourkova, Autumn Frear (2) and Emily Permut.  Defenseman Kiran Flieg had three assists. Goaltender Maggie Cowden turned away 25 shots for the shutout. The Piedmont 16U girls will travel to Nashville this weekend representing PVAHA in the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament.  The winning teams at the District Tournament earn an automatic berth in the USA Hockey National Tournament.

PIEDMONT 19U GIRLS WIN CBHL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Piedmont 19U Girls team won the CBHL Championship on Sunday in Frederick with a 5-0 win over the Reston Raiders.  Brianna Sullivan and Rachel Clarke each had two goals, Evy Stricker had a goal and an assist and Cory Bucy had two assists.  Piedmont came from behind to beat Montgomery 5-3 in the semifinal. Cory Bucy had a hat trick in the semi and led the 19U team with 5 points for the weekend.  The Piedmont 19U girls will travel to Nashville this weekend representing PVAHA in the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament.  Winning teams at the District Tournament advance to USA Hockey Nationals.

PIEDMONT PREDATORS 16U AA GIRLS WIN PVAHA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Piedmont Predators 16U AA Girls team won the PVAHA Championship this past weekend.   After trailing 2-1, Piedmont came back with 3 unanswered goals to take the win over the Tri-City Eagles.  The game winning goal came from Faith Jordan with a slap shot from the point.  Paulina Zubarev sealed the victory with the final goal and a 4-2 victory.  The team then beat the Montgomery Blue Devils 15-1.  As the team was undefeated, there was no need for the “as needed” playoff game.  With the PVAHA Championship win, Piedmont advances to the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament which will be held in Nashville, TN March 4-7.  The winners at the Southeast District Tournament earn a berth in the USA Hockey National Tournament held in Irvine, CA April 29-May 3.

PIEDMONT PREDATORS 19U AA GIRLS WIN PVAHA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Piedmont Predators 19U AA Girls team won the PVAHA Championship this past weekend with a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Eagles.   In round robin play, the 19U Girls beat Montgomery 4-2, Reston 5-0 and lost 4-3 to Tri-City in overtime.   Piedmont was down 2-0 in the Championship game at the start of the third period but came roaring back with 5 unanswered goals to take the title.  Rachel Clarke (2 Goals) and line mates Stephanie Collette and Evy Stricker accounted for 4 goals and 4 assists.  Kata Thomas sealed the victory with an empty netter assisted by Ashley Walden.  Rachel Clarke led Piedmont in scoring during the tournament with 4 goals and 3 assists.  With the PVAHA Championship win, Piedmont advances to the USA Hockey Southeast District Tournament which will be held in Nashville, TN March 4-7.  The winners at the Southeast District Tournament earn a berth in the USA Hockey National Tournament held in Irvine, CA April 29-May 3.
