PIEDMONT HOCKEY CLUB WILL BE JOINING THE CBHL FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON
Our Squirt and PeeWee teams will be playing a full CBHL league schedule. Our Bantam and Midget teams will continue our highly successful tournament and exhibition game format.
PREDATORS HAVE ROUTE TO NATIONALS
Per PVAHA rules, the Piedmont Hockey Club may notify the Affiliate of its intention to compete against the CBHL regular season champion at the Bantam and Midget levels to represent the Affiliate at the Southeastern Disctrict Tier II Tournament, playoff format to be determined.
INTRODUCING REDUCED TEAM ROSTER SIZES FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON
The Piedmont Hockey Club will be fielding teams with reduced roster sizes for the upcoming 2013-2014 Fall season. As a general guideline, we will be targeting the following roster sizes:
Squirt – 10-12 skaters and 1 goalie
PeeWee – 10-12 skaters and 1-2 goalies
Bantam – 12-13 skaters and 1-2 goalies
BENEFITS OF FEWER PLAYERS PER TEAM
MORE COMPETITIVE TEAMS – Fielding fewer players per team will allow us to only roster the highest skilled players to our top teams. This will enable them to compete against the highest level competition.
BETTER PLAYER DEVELOPMENT – Rostering fewer players increases each player’s individual puck touches within the competition and makes the individual game more productive in terms of player development. Players who would have been 3rd line “role players” on one team (potentially missing shifts on special teams) will now be top players on their respective team. In a typical, 3 – 15 minute period game with 3 lines, a player should expect 15 minutes of game time. With 2 lines of skaters, players should expect 22.5 minutes of game time. Receiving 50% more game time over the course of the season will greatly increase the development of our players.
CLOSER CONCENTRATION OF SKILL LEVEL – With fewer players per team, the discrepancy between the skill level of the top player to the bottom player will be much closer.
BETTER PHYSICAL CONDITIONING – Players will have to be in top physical condition since they will be skating more shifts in games.
MORE PLAYERS IN TRAVEL HOCKEY – At a level where we would have fielded 2 teams with 15 skaters each for a total of 30 skaters, we will now field 3 teams with 12 skaters each for a total of 36 skaters.
GOALIES WILL BE PLAYING MORE GAMES – On many teams we will only roster one goalie, doubling his game time for the season. This will greatly increase his development over the course of a season.
Since we are reducing rosters, we will be fielding more teams. With that in mind, we have made some adjustments to our coaching staff and expected teams.
Squirt Sky – Head Coach Keith Ludeman (this team is open to both ‘03s and ‘04s)
Squirt Navy 03 – Head Coach Scott Thompson
Squirt Navy 04 – Head Coach Matt Brady
PeeWee Sky – Head Coach Steve Ziff (this team is open to both ‘01s and ‘02s)
PeeWee Navy 01 – Head Coach Leslie Esposito
PeeWee Navy 02 – Head Coach John Dziekan
Bantam Sky – Head Coach Chris Borner (this team is open to both ‘99s and ‘00s)
Bantam Navy 99 – Head Coach Chris Spicer
Bantam Navy 00 – Head Coach Ron Evans
Midget U18 – Head Coach Ryan Raya, tryouts to be held in mid to late June
Midget U16 –Head Coach Chris Borner
Teams are subject to the number and skill level of players.
At the Squirt, PeeWee, and Bantam levels, we will have an open tryout for the top, Sky, team. Major and minor birth year players are eligible to make this team. Players who are not selected to the Sky team will predominantly be placed on their corresponding birth year team.
